The Department of Mechanical Design currently has 18 teachers including 1 professor and doctoral candidate supervisor, 7 associate professors and 10 lecturers. The Department offers mechanical design courses on mechanical design and manufacturing & automation for undergraduate students, and offers mechanical design and theoretical courses (class-B discipline) for master’s degree candidates and doctoral degree candidates. Over the past several years, the Department has completed construction of two key courses commissioned by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and two excellent courses for the School. The Department has also published more than 10 textbooks.
Research areas include: 1) multidisciplinary analysis and optimization of mechanical structure; 2) virtual design and manufacturing; 3) bionic design; 4) tribology; 5) drive system technology. The Department has developed unique strengths in such areas as multidisciplinary analysis and optimization of mechanical structure and virtual design & manufacturing.
Over the past several years, the Department has undertaken several national natural science fund projects, Shanghai key science & technology projects and projects commissioned by enterprises. Research results of the Department have been at the leading level domestically and advanced level internationally. The Department obtains over RMB 1.5 million in research fund annually, and publishes over 50 papers annually on average along with 10 SCI/EI papers annually on average. The Department has obtained more than 20 national invention patents.
