On December 13, 2017, 19 exchange students from Hochschule Furtwangen University (Germany) completed their course study and exchange program at the School of Mechanical Engineering of USST. Professor Li Haolin, the president, Professor Qian Wei, the president in charge of teaching affairs, and all teachers offering courses were present at the graduation ceremony and took a group photo with all the exchange students. The school leadership and teachers also extended their sincere congratulations and best wishes to the exchange students.
Since USST and Hochschule Furtwangen University signed student exchange agreement in 2011, the School has received nearly 100 exchange students from Germany for a consecutive of 6 years (until the year of 2016). English-taught courses offered every year include computer-aided three-dimensional design, electromechanical comprehensive experiment, CNC technology, intermediate Chinese and culture. The exchanges students also visit machinery manufacturers and automobile manufacturers surrounding Shanghai and participate in various cultural practice activities on a regular basis. Through the exchange program, students acquire specialty related knowledge and gain first-hand experience of Chinese culture and life of the ordinary people, which helps lay a solid foundation for their future career development in China.
Each exchange student has one to two Chinese companions to provide assistance necessary for their study and daily life. The exchange student also practice English or German with their Chinese companions. After one academic term’s mutual help, the students from the two countries form deep friendships and at the same time, broaden their thinking and horizon. The School encourage more students to participate in international exchange activities so as to get prepared to study or work abroad in the future.
Our School also sends more than 10 undergraduate students to Hochschule Furtwangen University every year for exchange program. As a world leading internationalized university, Hochschule Furtwangen University attracts students from around the world and boasts colorful campus culture and inclusive campus atmosphere. The university offers different level of German language courses in order to allow students to have German language learning opportunities both before enrollment and during study process. English-taught courses for various subjects are also offered for students from different countries for their selection. Students of our School usually have a rewarding experience from their study in Germany and some of them stay in Germany for further study.
